Bod Djang (Fly Dreaming)

This is a Dreaming story from Kudjekbinj, Bod Djang (Fly Dreaming). There is a small waterhole called Kabinmirri at a place called Yikarrkarrk, with one small banyan tree (manbornde). The tree doesn’t grow tall, it just stays the same height. Young girls don’t swim in this waterhole. If they do, they can become pregnant. A fly will bite them, and in two or three days time they will feel the child growing inside them. There are Yawkyawk (water spirits) in the water hole. They serve as protectors to the waterhole. Sometimes they can be heard calling out, when there is no other noise around.
