Kuluban (bats)

Allan has painted kuluban (bats). We eat two kinds of bats. We eat the black flying fox (“Murru”) and also another flying fox we call “Nakayalak” which is brown in colour. The old people used go into the big monsoon forests and throw sticks at them. But nowadays we shoot them with rifles made by balanda (non-Aboriginal people). Bats that live in caves, the small bat we call “Malambibbi” and the ghost bat (“Bumabuma”), we don’t eat them. Here Allan has depicted nawaran (oenpelli python) attacking and eating two kuluban.
