Namarnkol Djang (Barramundi Dreaming at Wilka)

In the dreamtime, Nayuhyungki, the first people, camped in the Borrodaile area. Whenever people looked in the water they saw great rows of barramundi swimming, following each other in a long line through the water. One day a couple went hunting. They cut through the line of fish, the woman took half the fish, the man took the other half and they went away to the Wilka area. After this, when the people looked into the water they saw only lone barramundi swimming. Suddenly everyone realised, instead of seeing great long lines of barramundi, they saw single fish swimming alone. Everyone started asking where the fish had gone. They started following the road back to Wilka and saw the woman sitting by a fire cooking enough barramundi for her entire family.
Namarrodoh, sometimes known as the evil angel, told all the people to go into a cave and herded the woman’s entire family inside where he bound them up in cobwebs so thick the people could no longer move or breathe. And they were left there for all the people to see.
