Manburrangkali (Waterlily Root)
Manburrangkali is the root from mandem (waterlily) and grows in billabongs and waterholes all around Arnhem Land. Women collect them along with other lilly roots and cook them in earth ovens or in the fire. Manburrangkali is sweeter than the other lilly roots and is the type of root the orphan boy ate before he started crying because he wanted more and wouldn’t eat any other type of food.
