Kunbodmengalng (Turtle Shell)

There are lots of different kinds of turtle shells. The shell of manbiri, the sea turtle, is very big. The shell of warradjan, the pig-nosed turtle, is small. Both ngalmangiyi (Long-Necked Turtle) and ngaderrhwo (snapping turtle) have small shells. People cook long-necked turtles in their shells, and when they’ve finished the flesh, the shell usually goes back on the fire and becomes ash.
