Traditional Skirt

The Old People used to wear skirts made from different bush fibres. A skirt made from the inner bark of the kurrajong tree is known as murdbu or djuddud in Kunwinjku. Sometimes for ceremonial occasions, these skirts would have feathers attached. In Rembarrnga, this type of skirt is known as boknardu. (Story told by Allan Namaniyuo)

This piece is made from pandanus, men and women from Manangrida or outstations of Western Arnhem land would wear it when doing corroboree.
