Biography

Amos Nganjmirra's work has a free and expressive quality which sets it apart. Amongst Kunwinjku artists better known for meticulous precision, his rarrk (hatching) tends towards the organic and his figures display a spontaneous vitality. His dynamic works capture the abundance of plant and animal life which is central to Kunwinjku hunting and ceremonial practices, and he is also known for beautiful abstract works depicting motifs used for Lorrkon (ceremonial log coffins). He is something of a cultural ambassador, regularly leading painting workshops for the Kakadu National Park’s Seasonal Ranger Program.

Amos Nganjmirra produced his first screenprint design for the Injalak studio in 2013, and in the same year took part in a large scale mural project for one of the public areas of the art centre.
