The old people used to say that Wak (the crow) belonged to the Mardku matrimoiety, and Marram (the whistling kite) to the Ngarradjku matrimoiety. Wak is also the name of a place to the north of Gunbalanya. We see lots of crows year-round in many clan countries. They eat the meat we throw away, and the flesh of dead and rotting animals. We often see them on the ground or in trees looking down at dead animals. There is a story that Wak used to a person in the Dreamtime, who walked around just like us.
