Warradjan (the pig-nosed turtle, Carettochelys insculpta) lives in fresh water. It doesn’t travel into the salt water, although when it grows big it looks a bit like a baby manbiri (sea turtle). Warradjan eats water weeds and the roots of the water pandanus. Warradjan is an important food for us Bininj people. Just like ngalmangiyi (long-nosed turtle) and ngarderrhwo (snapping turtle). We catch warradjan with hand lines.
