If you are in Alice Springs this month, please drop in to see our exhibition at Central Craft Manme Manmak – Good Food! The exhibition features paintings on Arches paper by Willie Nabulwad and Gabriel Maralngurra. We invite you to: Ngundibukkan Manme Bim – Come and look at this artwork about food until 16th September. Even better, join us for the opening at 3 pm on 6th September, just before Desert Mob opens at Araluen. Both artists will be at the opening. Also on display and available for sale are Pandanus baskets, hand-printed fabric lengths and bags.
Willie and Gabriel gather artistic inspiration from edible aspects of nature in West Arnhem Land. Willie’s beautifully executed paintings of native plants arise out of a life spent closely observing the natural world. Gabriel’s paintings feature animals. A renowned artist and co-manager of Injalak Arts, Gabriel also illustrated and co-wrote The Kunwinjku Counting Book. Published in 2016 this book has been extremely successful and the world-wide hardcover rights have been acquired by publisher Enchanted Lion to be printed in 2019. This is the first time Willie’s paintings have been featured in an exhibition.
