Don’t forget friends that every year we shut down the administration arm of our art centre for six weeks for a nice big break. Fabric printing also ceases then. The closure coincides with Kudjewk – our “wet season” – when the rains are plentiful, the East Alligator River rises and the floodplains surrounding Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) become covered in water. Crocodiles will be busy mating and nesting as will be many waterbirds. This also means we cannot be reached by road and the only way in and out for us and freight is via light aircraft. Many artists will continue harvesting bark and painting, whilst ladies will be collecting Pandanus for weaving and when the art centre re-opens we’ll be able to share wonderful new arts and crafts in our shop and online. Until 14th December we’ll continue to offer items for sale online in our Etsy shop and in website shop that will be freighted out before closure. They are choc-a-block with fabulous stock now so get in quick!
Injalak Arts will reopen on Monday 29th January 2018.
