Textiles
In Kunwinjku language, necklaces, earrings and other body adornments are usually named after the body part they are used for. A necklace is a “for the neck”, and a bracelet is a “for the arm”. An earring is known as “Kunkanemkenh”, made up of “kunkanem” (ear) and “kenh” (for).
Hand woven pandanus jewellery at Injalak Arts Centre showcases the exquisite craftsmanship of the Indigenous women artists in West Arnhem Land. Injalak earrings and necklaces are made from locally sourced pandanus and natural dyes, and each piece of jewellery is unique. The earrings are adorned with sterling silver safety hooks.
At Injalak Arts, we’re proud to be one of Australia’s original Indigenous screen printing textile workshops,
with a rich history dating back to 1989.
Our talented artists work together to create designs that are brought to life on-site by our skilled workshop team.
From luxurious silk to durable cotton, we print our designs on a variety of materials,
ensuring that each piece is of the highest quality, using vibrant colour-fast inks that are built to last.
