This is a Dreaming from Nabarlek in Madjawarr clan country. Some distance from the airport there is a Kabo Djang (Green Ant Dreaming) site. Kabo were important as a medicine in Kunwinjku culture – an infusion of live ants and their eggs was used to treat many illnesses, especially colds and flus. Some would be drunk, and some rubbed on the skin. The recent past this would be cooked up in a billy can, sometimes with mankung (bush honey). The taste of the ants is sour. Green ants are a type of weaver ant, making their nests by stitching living tree leaves together with silk produced by their larvae.
People always call out to the Ancestors at the Green Ant Dreaming site.
Kabo is also one of the skin names in the second skin system in West Arnhem Land, the others being kunwardde (stone), kunak (fire) and kundung (sun).
