Nganabbarru (buffalo) are big, dangerous creatures. They were imported on ships and spread throughout the Northern Territory. There used to be big populations of buffalo around Gunbalanya, we would see them out on the floodplain. If we went into the forest, we would often see them by rivers or swimming in waterholes. Bininj people used to shoot them from horses. When they fell people would truss them, injured but alive, and transport them back to the yard. Then they would kill them and skin them, and we could buy their meat at the shop.
